Township of Tiny Prohibits The Burning of Leaves

(TINY, ONTARIO) – EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016, TINY TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS WILL NO LONGER BE PERMITTED TO BURN LEAVES ON THEIR PROPERTY.

“Every year, Fire and Emergency Services responds to numerous calls for assistance as a result of burning leaves. In many cases, the result is a large, uncontrolled grass/brush fires and, in some cases, actual structural fires. Given the other options for disposing of leaves in a safer more environmentally-friendly manner, discontinuing the burning of leaves is appropriate.” said Fire Chief Tony Mintoff.

Tiny Township is one of only a few municipalities in Simcoe County that has continued to permit the burning of leaves prior to the passing of this by-law (15-027).

Since 2013, the County of Simcoe has provided leaf/garden waste pickup every two (2) weeks during both spring and fall seasons. Alternatively, residents can mulch or compost leaves to enrich the soil in their gardens.

For information on the pickup schedule for leaves and yard waste, please contact the County of Simcoe at www.simcoe.ca or by telephone at (705) 735-6901, or 1 (800) 263-3199.
